Sanctity of Life

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has consistently opposed the practice of abortion. One hundred years ago the First Presidency wrote: “And we again take this opportunity of warning the Latter-day Saints against those … practices of foeticide and infanticide.”

About Prop 139

Current Arizona Law:

  •  Allows abortions up until 15 weeks.
  • Requires a medical doctor, an ultrasound to ensure the safety of the mother, and counseling.

New Arizona Law with Prop 139:

  • Enshrines unlimited abortion into the Arizona Constitution.
  • Allows for painful, late-term abortions, even up until birth for any declared reason.
  • Removes the requirement of a medical doctor; uses vague language such as “healthcare professional.”
  • Endangers girls and women by giving power to unqualified providers
  • Excludes parents from the conversation when their minor daughter may need them most.

A Moral Issue:

  • The sanctity of life is the belief that human life is sacred, holy, and precious; life must be respected and protected.
  • Innocent human life is inviolable and may never be licitly destroyed for someone else’s benefit.

“Life comes from life. It is a gift from our Heavenly Father. It is eternal, as he is eternal. Innocent life is not sent by him to be destroyed! This doctrine is not of me, but is that of the living God and of his divine Son, which I testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
